Summer Markets

It's Spring here right now and getting warmer each day.  Last week I was working in long pants and a lightweight jumper, and today I'm down to t-shirt and 3/4 pants.  It is lovely to have the sun streaming into the room in the morning and warming it for most of the day.

The challenge for me with the warmer weather is what to take with me to local markets.  It's too warm right now for scarves and beanies, unless customers are looking for gifts to send overseas.  So, to increase what's available I've started knitting Cute Little Critters.

My thoughts were that these would be great little stocking stuffers.  So far they have been pretty popular at the markets, but I'd love some feedback. Feel free to leave me a comment with your thoughts.  And it would be great to know what new items you are planning to bring in for the Christmas shopping season.  Have a fab day :)

New Products

In a recent post titled 'On the Needles'  I referred to some items that just needed to be completed.  Well, most of these items are now finished ... yay!

Teal Coloured Scarf
I love the Colour! The scarf is long and warm, and has been decorated with cute unique shell buttons.

Mohair Neckwarmer
Made with a yarn that's a combination of mohair and wool, this neckwarmer is soft and lightweight.  The lacy stitch gives added warmth if worn over the top of a polo.

Chunky Cowl
For those allergic to wool, this Cowl has been handknit in a chunky acrylic yarn.  The yarn is self-striping, making a unique pattern!

Cable & Lace Beanie
Wool Beanie with a cable & lace edge.  These beanies fly off the shelves at local markets ... they are warm and the cable edge looks gorgeous.  Perfect for winter.

Mohair Blend Infinity Scarf
Aren't infinity Scarves the best?  Fabulous to wear long and loose or wrap around your neck.  This Mohair / Wool blend Scarf can be wrapped up to 3 times for those extra cold days!

Lacy Infinity Scarf
Knitted with a wool blend yarn, this multi-coloured Infinity Scarf is soft, warm and lightweight to wear.

All the above can be found in our Etsy store or on our Website.  No need to go cold over winter!

On the Needles

There are a few projects on the needles right now.  I've spent a bit of time creating new items to list in my Etsy shop ready for the northern winter.  Below is my current project - an infinity scarf.  The scarf is a combination of wool and acrylic, and knits soft and warm.  It's going to look great when finished.

Also with the Christmas shopping period approaching, I've been working on products ready to sell at local markets. So watch this space and when there are some completed I'll load pics for you to see.

I'd love to know what you are working on, so feel free to leave a comment below telling us of your latest project :)

Finally Finished!

Once of my favourite things to do on cold wet days is to knit, so as I've been knitting a lot recently! But as much as I love to knit, I'm not overly fond of finishing off the garments. Some garments take a bit of work to complete, so every now and then I put down the needles and have a 'finishing' day and tackle a number of items all at once.

I've found that by putting an item aside for a while gives me fresh creativeness for the finishing detail ... adding just the right button, or making a flower or bow to complete the item.  Below are some of the items completed on my last 'finishing' day.

Hooded Scarves - both these Hooded Scarves have been knitted with a pure wool yarn.  They are heavy and warm .. perfect for winter.  The purple scarf is slightly wider, and has a rolled rim that nicely frames the face.

Ruffle Scarves - these are beautifully elegant and can be worn in warmer seasons.  The Ruffle Scarves are long which adds flexibility on how they can be worn.  And each scarf has it's own metallic thread throughout, adding a touch of 'bling'!

White Ruffle Scarf with Silver Edge

Chunky Cowl - I must admit to loving chunky cowls!  They are warm, soft and fun to wear over winter. The one above is knitted in a soft non-allergic acrylic yarn, and has been decorated with a pink & white flower of the same yarn.  I've sewn the end together on this Cowl, so all you need to do is pop it over your head and adjust to your comfort.

Tea Cosies - Yes, the photo below is of two 6-pot Tea Cosies. If you want to see an example of the tea cozy on a pot, click on the caption below the photo.  They look incredibly cute and will soon be available for 2-cup teapots as well.

And I noticed today that my 'to be completed' box is growing again, so there will be another 'finishing' day coming up very soon!   Oh; and just a quick reminder that we still have a few items available in our Clearance Section that are 50% off the normal price.  Head on over and checkout if you are looking for gorgeous accessories at great prices!

Discovered: KP Beads

As most of you will know, I love colour.  And that's the first thing I notice when visiting KP Beads store - gorgeous colours and colour combinations.  Below, you can read about Kate from KP Beads and her lovely creations.

Candy Necklace

Please tell us a little about yourself:
I grew up on a sheep and cattle farm in the Rangitikei - an awesome childhood I am so grateful to have had. When I left school I trained as a chef, spent some years cooking before meeting my husband, and we now live in Auckland with our two lovely girls. I am a stay at home mum, and as well as creating with polymer clay which I have been doing for 6 years now, I am able to continue with my other love of cooking.

What/who inspires you in your creative process?

At the moment my inspiration is all of the wonderful things that can be done with polymer clay. There are so many techniques out there which I am slowly working my way through - an endless supply of inspiration in itself. From there little ideas pop into my head to then extend myself even further. I get my best ideas while out doing my exercise.

What is your favorite thing to make / sell?

Oh boy this is a tricky question to answer as I love making everything! I started out just making and selling beads but there is definitely something satisfying about then going on a step further and creating a finished jewellery item with the handmade beads I have made. My favorite bead to make would definitely be the swirl beads I make.

Swirl Beads

What’s your personal favorite item?
Just before Christmas I started selling children's cutlery sets which have been a big seller for me. They make such a lovely gift and children just love having something with their name on it. This has also progressed onto other cutlery which has also been very popular, cheese knives, teaspoon and cake fork sets and serving spoons among others.

What are your hobbies outside of crafting?
I have no other official hobbies to be honest although I do like to collect cook books. I think I have over 270 of them now. I definitely love family outings and of course being able to cook for my family - I am a keen baker.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
Italy to taste authentic Italian food. I would also like to do a road trip around America. I went one for a short visit and found it to be a rather fascinating place.

I'd suggest you head on over to visit KP Beads with a cuppa'll find beautiful beads, buttons, jewellery and cutlery.   Thanks Kate - we really appreciate you sharing with us :)

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

Wow - it's been so long since my last post!  But then again, I've been working on a non-Maxies project over the past few months; we've spent a couple of weeks visiting friends in China; and I've almost finished the jumper for Paul that I'd promised to complete before winter.  I'm just in time - tomorrow is officially the last day of Autumn, and it's also his birthday.

But knitting for Maxies has not been completely forgotten ....

Ruffle Scarves have become quite popular over the past year, so earlier this month I decided it was time to try and knit some.  Not always the most successful learning how to use new yarns, I quickly hunted for a tutorial on YouTube and found one that explained very easily where to start and how to actually knit a Ruffle Scarf.  I'm rather happy with my first one!

I've also had attempts at Arm knitting.  I'd seen some beautiful Scarves made this way in the past, and thought it would be fun to try.  And I was right!  These Scarves are really fun to knit, and knit up incredibly fast.  The one pictured below still needs to be sewn to make it into an Infinity Scarf, but I couldn't wait to show it off!

On the Needles

I've been knitting hats and a few of them.  The one on the needles is going to be another Pixie Hat that hopefully will soon be completed and available on our Website.

The brown, orange and pink hats have been knitted in a lovely chunky yarn. Perfect for a cold winters day!

The blue hat has a cable edge, and was actually knitted in a beautiful Jade colour.  For some reason the colour green doesn't show well when photographed by me.  I've tried using different camera's but have had no success!  If anyone has any ideas on how to overcome this, feel free to let me know.

On a side note ... next week we are off to attend a 2 day market in the beautiful city of Rotorua.  I'm rather excited because although it's summer at the moment, Rotorua is a popular tourist spot.  And what better way is there to spend a day, than browsing a market that is situated next to a beautiful lake!

Shades of Aqua

If there is one thing I enjoy about Etsy, it's the ability to create Treasuries.  And the great thing about treasuries is that you get an opportunity to showcase other people's work.

Below is my latest Treasury, created as participation in an event held by the CAST Team.

If you'd like a closer look at any of the items just click on the pic.  It will take you directly to that item ... and while you are there, checkout the other gorgeous items in store.  Have fun browsing!

Below is the Cowl I've just finished knitting.  I really like it and was tempted to keep it for myself, but resisted and have listed on Etsy and the website.  Hopefully it will sell soon so all temptation will be gone!

Do you have moments when you want to keep what you've made?  Every so often there's just one that seems a little more tempting than others. And I must say it doesn't help that I love soft, warm Cowls.

My favourites are the soft, single lacy ones.  These are perfect for those who live in milder climates ... just like our climate here in Auckland.

The Cowl sits comfortably around the neck, and looks great worn under a jacket or as an accessory to your outfit.  It's also a lovely accessory for autumn and spring, where there are those days that remind you a little of winter.

Wearing mine to work one day, I found that I wore it all day - it felt so comfortable, soft and snuggly for a cold wintery day. The office I was working in didn't have central heating so the cowl really came in handy.  Also it complimented what I was wearing that day.  Here's the lacy cowls I'm writing about:

I'd really love to hear about the winter accessory you just can't live without.  Is it a cowl, scarf, gloves, hat?  Or a big thick winter coat?  Or maybe it's a favourite pair of boots?  Feel free to leave a comment below and let me know!

It's 2013!

Happy New Year!  A little late I know, but the last few weeks have been filled with old friends, new friends, friends from far away, family, renovations and all the fun things that Christmas breaks are filled with.

Then to top off our break, my husband and I stayed at a lovely beach property with friends last weekend. Although we were only there for 2 days it felt more like a whole week.  Does everyone feel like that when they spend a couple of days at the beach?

My laptop and knitting were left behind and were replaced with togs, towels and sunblock.   We swam, sunbathed, swam again, played card games until late and then repeated it all again the next day. It was bliss!

So much so, that for the past week as I've thought about my goals for the new year, it's been a struggle to get past the first one on my incomplete list ... spend more time at the beach!

I know that my list will grow and develop over the next few days.  Hopefully the one thing that I can tick off as completed in a few months is goal #1!  Have you already written down your plans for 2013?
